GA Industri is a family-owned steel service center in Smålandsstenar that supplies the manufacturing industry in the Nordic and Baltic countries with thin sheet metal. With roots dating back to 1955 and a strong connection to Swedish industry, the company is now run by the third generation with approximately 60 employees and a production that includes slitting and cutting sheet metal in various qualities.
When GA contacted us, they wanted to prepare themselves to meet the requirements of the CSRD directive. They immediately put together a dedicated project group with great commitment and a clear direction. The goal was to build understanding in management and create a structure for the entire sustainability work. A structure that would work in practice, not just in reporting.
The challenge: when the requirements change mid-journey
Just like for many other companies, the CSRD work initially felt both extensive and complex. Understanding the directive, interpreting it for your own business, and keeping the structure together at the same time is a challenge in itself.
When the requirements also changed along the way, both patience and adaptability were tested. Here, the project group played a crucial role, where the target picture became extra important in the work. With an impressive drive and commitment, they maintained direction throughout the process and showed that structured and purposeful work yields results even when the conditions change.
A comprehensive investment for CSRD
We designed a CSRD process in several steps, adapted to GA’s needs and conditions. The work has included:
- On-site workshops in Smålandsstenar to carry out a double materiality analysis
- An IRO analysis where sustainability issues were mapped and assessed
- A gap analysis and action plan with concrete proposals for work packages
Throughout the process, we worked closely with the project group, which consisted of three people with responsibility for quality and the environment, among other things. In important parts of the work, the management has also been involved, to ensure anchoring and understanding throughout the organization.
Result: Increased knowledge and concrete structure
The work has given GA Industri a clear picture of its most important sustainability issues and what is required to be able to report according to CSRD. The project group has methodically anchored the insights in the business, while we have contributed with structure, direction and support, not least when the directive has felt intricate.
“Hållbarhetsteamet proved to be a fantastic guide when the sustainability jungle felt difficult to navigate.”
— Anders Tegeskog, Sustainability & Quality Manager, GA Industri AB
From plan to action
GA Industri’s next step is to decide on the proposed work packages in the action plan and continue to anchor the work internally.
We look forward to supporting and following them on their continued sustainability journey!
