The family business Beslag & Metall manufactures components mainly for the automotive industry. In the factory located in Ekenässjön, Småland, production takes place through pressing, welding, surface treatment and assembly.
The need
In 2021, Beslag & Metall took a strategic decision to develop its sustainability work, and to compile the work that was already being done. As their customers began to make higher demands on sustainability work and requested information about the company’s climate footprint, the need for a basis for communication and internal development of the work grew.
The mission
Hållbarhetsteamet’s task in this case was divided into two areas; communication and climate calculation
In the spring of 2022, we carried out analyses and conducted interviews to compile the ongoing work on sustainability. Subsequently, a communication document was created, which in many respects follows a layout similar to a sustainability report. In 2023, we were also commissioned to update the report for the 2022 financial year.
Together with Beslag & Metall, we have also prepared a climate calculation. The assignment consisted of an introductory training regarding climate calculations, calculations according to data collected by Beslag & Metall, review and finally a compilation of the result in the form of a report.
The result
With the communication material as a basis, Beslag & Metall now has an easier time engaging its employees by putting sustainability in their own context. By formulating what the current sustainability work looks like, the company has also had an easier time setting long-term goals and creating a better structure around the work.
The climate calculation has also been a good help, especially in dialog with customers and other stakeholders. Today, Beslag & Metall can account for its products’ climate impact in terms of CO2 emissions, which has been used in discussions for new business.
Through a very good structure, thHållbarhetsteamet has helped us compile our sustainability work. Furthermore, they have also given us recommendations to create a clear direction for future sustainability work. Thanks to the climate calculation, we can use our new knowledge in discussions with new customers, and also help our existing customers in their work to calculate their climate impact themselves.
