Joint development of calculator

The company Recaremed has developed a service for managing surplus medicines: Recarebox. The purpose of the service is to help the customer minimize waste, increase sorting and create order in the management of surplus medicines.

The need

Recaremed identified the need to be able to compare the difference from using an existing management approach to switching to Recaremed’s Recarebox service. This is to demonstrate the sustainability benefits of the service and to help potential customers understand the value of the service.

The mission

Our team supported and participated in a project together with Recaremed to develop a calculator. The calculator’s task was to calculate the sustainability performance of the current pharmaceutical management of customers who do not yet use Recarebox, based on the areas of safety, external environment and economy. The assignment had two purposes:

  • Increase customer awareness of the environmental impact of current operations
  • With the results from the calculator, it is possible to increase the commitment of decision-makers in an organization, as the data makes it clear that current management can be improved from a sustainability perspective

The result

During the project, a digital situational analysis has been carried out, based on employees and managers being asked to answer various questions about the current management of leftover medicines. Based on the answers, the respondent is either praised or informed about what improvements could have been made if the respondent had used Recarebox instead. In the long run, the result is that a workplace’s common current situation analysis can be used as a comparison when choosing to switch to Recarebox. As a company/organization, you can then receive an annual summary of the sustainability performance of waste management based on the changes you have made compared to how the previous management looked.

Among other things, the compilation can be used as part of a sustainability report where companies/municipalities can communicate how they work more sustainably with the management of the pharmaceutical waste that arises in the business. The results show the positive effects the service has contributed through:

  • Increased safety in handling at workplaces
  • Reduced risk of pharmaceutical waste being used in misuse
  • The time gain
  • Reduced climate impact of the service content

Hållbarhetsteamet has been present throughout the process, providing expertise in the field of sustainability. This has been crucial to the process. In addition, the work has worked very well – despite the fact that Hållbarhetsteamet had to enter an already established working group, the cooperation flowed well.
